Doing it yourself? A hot tub is mostly acrylic shell and foam insulation — very little of it is recyclable, so it goes to the landfill. You'd need to drain it, cut the shell with a reciprocating saw, and rent a heavy trailer, since most tubs weigh 500–900 lbs dry. The Jackson County and Johnson County transfer stations accept the pieces for a per-ton fee. For most people the labor and saw work make the on-site quote worth it.
