A ground-level deck is a realistic weekend job with a pry bar, a reciprocating saw, and a dumpster or heavy trailer. Old deck lumber is bulky, full of nails, and heavy once it's soaked in years of weather. The parts that trip people up are the ledger board (it's attached to your house, so cut it wrong and you've got a repair) and the concrete footings, which usually need to be dug out or busted up. Treated lumber isn't recyclable and can't be burned, so it goes to the transfer station by weight.
