How to get rid of concrete & brick in Kansas City

Broken concrete, brick, and block are priced by weight, not space. Where to dump or recycle it in the KC metro — including options cheaper than a landfill.

Almost everything in junk removal is priced by the space it fills. Concrete is the exception — everything about it is weight math. A single sidewalk square weighs a couple hundred pounds; a modest patio is measured in tons. That's why no city trash program touches it (KCMO's bulky pickup explicitly excludes masonry), why dumpster companies charge overages on it, and why the disposal options below are all structured around the scale, not the curb.

Concrete recyclers: usually the cheapest dump

Clean concrete doesn't need a landfill — it gets crushed into recycled aggregate and reused, which is why recyclers usually undercut landfill rates. In the metro, Metropolitan Concrete Recycle runs multiple KC locations taking concrete, asphalt, and rock, and Kaw Valley Companies' recycling center takes concrete, asphalt, and dirt. The catch is the word "clean": loads mixed with trash, wood, drywall, or rebar-heavy chunks can be rejected or charged landfill rates. Keep concrete separated from everything else and call ahead on current rules.

C&D landfills

If the load isn't clean enough to recycle, construction-and-demolition landfills take concrete, brick, and block: Pink Hill Acres in Blue Springs accepts C&D material from the public on the Missouri side, and Johnson County has C&D landfills on the Kansas side. Pricing is per load or per ton — with concrete, per-ton adds up fast, which is another reason the recyclers are worth the first call.

The free route: clean-fill listings

Broken concrete — landscapers call it urbanite — is genuinely wanted material. People and contractors post "clean fill wanted" listings on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace looking for exactly what you're trying to get rid of, for retaining walls, erosion control, and fill. If your chunks are clean and unpainted and you can deliver (or they'll come get it), this route costs nothing. It's the best-kept secret in heavy-debris disposal, and it only works if you're not in a hurry.

Why weight limits matter (including ours)

Everything that moves concrete has a weight ceiling — dumpsters have overage fees, half-ton pickups have springs, and our truck is no exception. So here's our straight answer: small quantities are often workable — a broken-up sidewalk section, a few fence-post footings, a pile of brick from a chimney repair. Text us a photo and we'll tell you honestly whether it fits our weight limits and what it costs. A full driveway or slab demo is dedicated heavy-hauling territory, and we'll tell you that too rather than pretend. For remodel-scale debris pricing, our demo debris cost guide has the full picture.
